Our Work

We envision a world where girls are educated and in control of their destiny and can participate in the development of their homes and communities.

Top Girl Scholarship Program

The TOP GIRL scholarship program was established to increase access to quality education for needy students through the provision of scholarships, learning equipment, and infrastructure development.

Application process:
The TOP GIRL scholarship forms are available at the TOP GIRL offices at ACK Diocese Mumias or can be downloaded from the TOP GIRL website. The form must be completed in full and all relevant supporting documentation should be attached. Applicants will be expected to come with the forms for interviews at their former primary schools.

Top Girl Dada’s Club

The DADA’s club is a mentorship program that aims to equip the TOP GIRL Scholars with life skills to navigate through high school, university and beyond, creating networking opportunities for our girls and establishing a culture of giving.

Every TOP GIRL Scholar is required to identify a need in their community and identify possible solutions to address the need. This keeps the TOP GIRLS connected and inspired to drive change in their communities.

Volunteer & Exchange Program

This program exposes the girls to career and educational opportunities and connects them to a global platform to be able to see the world beyond what they know.

This program connects TOP GIRLS with other young women across the globe to share experiences, skills, ideas and build a connection with the local community in Mumias Kenya. TOP GIRL provides three (3) volunteer placements in Mumias rural town in western Kenya at any given time. The TOP GIRL team consists of seven (7) volunteer board members and Four staff. As a volunteer of TOP GIRL, you will be contributing towards developing a rural community as you work with TOP GIRL and the scholars.

Volunteers support us on the following projects:

    1. Mentorship sessions in the partner schools and with the college students.
    2. Support the digital literacy and community Library activities.
    3. Brainstorming on the livelihoods project.
    4. Resource mobilization.

To apply please fill up the volunteer application form. This will help us share with you additional information regarding your placement (The costs and visa fees). You should be at least 18 years when you apply.

Top Girl Community Library and Digital Lab

Although primary and secondary education in Kenya is provided at a subsidized fee by the government, there are additional costs that prevent students from low-income families from accessing quality education.

Apart from the parent contribution towards school fees and the standard costs for uniforms, transport to and from school and school meals, the Insufficient access to learning materials, especially books and information are major barriers to accessing quality education and transition to higher levels.

By opening a community Library and a digital lab, we create the following:

      • We enhance access to reading material (text books, novels other literature) for all ages from Pre-school level to high school.
      • Enhance digital literacy skills for all learners from pre-school to college level.
      • Enhance access to general information for students in high school and college such as information about different careers, application for government services such as school fees bursaries and school fee loans (HELB), scholarship and other learning opportunities.
      • Connect the students from TOP Girl partner schools, TOP GIRL scholars to fellow students in the globe that agree to partner with top girl for peer to peer learning.

Community Livelihoods Program

95% of TOP GIRL households rely on casual labor such as cleaning, farm labor, house helps and small-scale business making an average of $1.5 per day. This directly affects their contribution towards the welfare of the TOP GIRL scholars and hence has a ripple effect on the performance and well-being of the TOP GIRLS.

The Community Livelihood’s program therefore provides TOP GIRL households and community with the appropriate support to identify, establish and grow household income and assets.

Our support includes:

      • Support TOP GIRL households to identify, establish and grow income generating activities.
      • Train TOP GIRL caregivers on a financial literacy.
      • Establish household and group managed savings and social fund to support education issues.
      • Promote knowledge and agri-business skills to address food security issues.
      • To support and promote increased community participation in development initiatives through establishment of the TOP GIRL community fund.
